What is a CCRC?
A continuing care retirement community (CCRC) offers a maintenance-free lifestyle in a residential setting with a variety of provided services, all conveniently located on-site. Community amenities typically consist of numerous social activities, dining options, maintenance and housekeeping services and access to continuing care (personal care, memory care, skilled nursing and rehab) as residents’ needs require.
Do I own my residence?
Residents pay a one-time refundable entrance fee that provides lifetime use of their residence. But residents do not own the residence. The entrance fee is refundable to the resident or the estate as outlined in the Residence and Care Agreement.
What services are included with the monthly fee?
Your monthly service fee includes most meals and utilities, housekeeping and grounds keeping, scheduled transportation, on-site educational and cultural events, concierge service, room service, a debit system for on-site purchases, daily check-in system, 24/7 security, emergency response system and more!
What types of residences are available?
Shannondell residents can choose from more than 40 floor plans (ranging in size from 708 to 2,130 square feet). These include well-appointed studios, spacious one- and two-bedroom homes, some offering separate dens and balconies – all designed to provide a personal space that’s both accommodating and comfortable.
May I renovate or decorate my home?
Residents are welcome to customize their homes to reflect individual style and tastes. A professional interior designer is available through Shannondell, or you can choose to work with your own. For more involved interior renovations, design plans and construction are subject to approval.
Do you provide any assistance in helping to sell my current home?
Yes. As a value-added service to new residents, our resident real estate manager will work with your real estate agent to ensure your home is marketed optimally. Additionally, we offer interior space planning and on the day of your move – unpacking services. So, from Day One, you can completely relax in your new home at Shannondell.
Can my children and grandchildren visit us and use your amenities?
Absolutely. Children and grandchildren are a common and welcome sight at Shannondell. From joining their parents and grandparents for scrumptious meals, concerts and musicals in our performing arts theater; to a challenging game of table tennis, billiards, bocce or Wii bowling in our video game room, Shannondell is a place where generations of families can comfortably come together for fun and lasting memories. And for family traveling to visit from out of town, Shannondell residents can reserve one of several guest rooms available for just such occasions.
It looks like there’s a lot to do. How varied are your activities and programs?
Where do we start? How about indoor Aquatics and Fitness centers, indoor and outdoor bocce courts, two movie theaters, Performing Arts Theater, six dining venues, table tennis, billiards, arts & crafts studios, wood working shop, model train room, libraries and resident garden, to name a few. Plus, Shannondell residents enjoy a wide variety of clubs, classes and groups. From educational classes, book and bible study groups, acting, woodcarving, dancing, bridge, painting, even family history writing, the opportunities for learning and sharing with others is plentiful at Shannondell.
What happens if I need medical attention for illness or injury?
Two renowned regional health systems – Main Line Health and Einstein Healthcare Network – have offices within Shannondell, one located within each clubhouse. Both on-site medical practices offer board-certified physicians and licensed staff specializing in the health care needs of senior adults. For your convenience, Shannondell also offers an on-site pharmacy with delivery to your residence.
Do you have personal care or skilled nursing services?
The Meadows at Shannondell, an on-site long-term care facility, offers a higher level and/or longer period of care including personal care, memory care, skilled nursing and rehab services.
Does the Shannondell smoke-free policy apply just to building interiors?
To provide a more comfortable environment for residents, staff and guests, tobacco use is prohibited at Shannondell. This includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes and e-cigarettes, regardless of whether or not they contain tobacco, and applies to all buildings and outdoor spaces within the community.

Take the Valley Forge Exit. Follow signs to 422 West (Pottstown). Travel approximately 1/2 mile to Route 422 West (Pottstown). Exit on the right at Route 363 North (Trooper/Audubon) after crossing over Schuylkill River. Proceed to the 4th traffic light and turn left onto Shannondell Blvd. Continue straight through the intersection and enter through the Gate House on the left.
From Philadelphia
Take Interstate 76 West (Schuylkill Expressway). Proceed to Route 422 West (Pottstown). Exit on the right at Route 363 North (Trooper/Audubon) after crossing over Schuylkill River. Proceed to the 4th traffic light and turn left onto Shannondell Blvd. Continue straight through the intersection and enter through the Gate House on the left.
